Ans.
1. ‘fstab’ contains important information about your file system, such as what file system type the partitions are where they are located on the hard drive and what mount point is used to access them.

2. This informations are read by vital programs such as mount, unmount and ‘fsck-mount’ runs at start time and mount all the file systems mentioned in the fstab file.

3. When fsck is run at bootup, it is also checks all the file system listed in fstab for consistency.
