7.Explain the process of installing and configuring application software.
Ans.
1. Installing a software basically means copying a set of code in specific directory from which system can access those files for compilation and execution.

2. New software packages might be installed in ‘/opt’ if they are likely to be upgraded separately from Red hat distribution itself.

3. Some packages may need to go in ‘/usr/src’ or even ‘/usr’ if they are upgraded of packages installed as part of packages installed as part of Red hat.

4. The location of the installation usually matters only if you compile the application from source code.

5. If you use a Red hat package manager (RPM) application package, it automatically goes where it should.

6. It is possible for individual users to install some applications in their home directories.

7. Drive space set aside for their own files and customizations, these applications may not be available to other users without the permission of the user who installed the program or the system administrator.

8. Besides system administrator can decide which users may use which application by creating a ‘group’.
